The 2008 Spring-break cultural / educational group was consisted of 11 educators from British Columbia. The educational part of this trip was led by Larry Hayes, the Burnaby Board of Education Trustee. During the stays in China, this group visited one of the most prestigious middle schools in Beijing – Ba Yi Middle School. All Canadian and Chinese educators, including the vice principal from Ba Yi Middle School, attended the meeting arranged by Ba Yi Middle School after a guided lookaround of the campus. The main topic of the meeting was the ‘difference between Canadian and Chinese education system’.
After Ba Yi Middle School, the group continued their educational visits to a foreign language school, known as Beijing Shangli Foreign Language School. This time, all Canadian educators were invited into a grade 1 class. Lovely children expressed their gladness by calling elder educators ‘Grandpa’ and ‘Grandma’. Furthermore, when our Canadian guests walked into the classroom, all the students presented their drawings to welcome those foreign guests. Before our Canadian educators left that school, they sat in a typical Chinese classroom and started learning Chinese Calligraphy. The calligraphy instructor started his lecture from the history of the Chinese Calligraphy and gave considerable amount of information related to Chinese Calligraphy.
The cultural part of the trip was extremely pleasant to all of the participants. They paid their visits to many famous and gorgeous attraction places, such as the Great Wall of China, Summer Palace, and Forbidden City, Humble Administrator Garden, and Oriental Peal Tower. They also enjoyed their night shows, such as Beijing Acrobatic Shows, Beijing Opera Shows, and Kung Fu shows. On this trip, all Canadian educators were treated as Canadian ambassadors, including luxurious hotel accommodations, delicious Chinese food, deluxe tour buses, vivid site explanation from professional tour leaders and guides, and lots more.
